Sauris (The heart of Carnia)
We skirt Lake Sauris before starting a 6.9 km climb (6.6% avg., 11.2% max.) leading to the most-authentic village of Sauris, where the “saurane” traditions still live surrounded by natural beauty. The road continues a further 3.6 km uphill to Sella di Rioda (8.5% avg., 13% max.).
The pass connects the Sella di Razzo, Cadore and Carnia over a quite exposed paved road with very steep and spectacular views which can be enjoyed even on the descent towards Comeglians along the Val Pesarina. At Comeglians we turn left at the junction that leads to the Monte Crostis from where we start the 6.9 km climb towards Ravascletto (5.9% avg., 9.3% max.). On the subsequent descent to Sutrio we can see the landscape surrounding the top of the famous Zoncolan. Once in Paluzza we start to climb towards Treppo carnico. We then climb 4.6 km to Ligosullo (7.7% avg., 13.5% max.), a small Italian village also full of cultural heritage and natural beauty. Above a church, the road continues to climb until it reaches the top of the valley. We take the road on the right towards the Incarojo valley towards Paularo, where our ride ends.
