Passo del Gavia

In this videorace we propose another legendary climb in the history of cycling : Passo del Gavia. The Passo del Gavia Pass is a mountain pass that connects the valley of the Gavia and the Alta Valle Camonica, on the border between the provinces of Sondrio and Brescia. The starting point of this demanding tour is Ponte di Legno. The ride starts with a short flat stretch before taking the first step of the ramps.
We enter in Val di Pezzo, with the first 500m in descent and then ascent to Sant ' Apollonia. So far, the road is presented with slopes not important, broad and well-paved, but here is where the real ascent begins: the road narrows and the view over the Valle delle Messi grows as we climb, always with steep slopes along a series of bends with fantastic views to the surrounding mountain peaks. Now the valley follows the ridge. We approach the most difficult point: a completely dark tunnel of about 200m whose output does not seem to ever get. From here you can have a panoramic view of the high mountains that form the border between the two valleys and later also on Lago Nero. Then comes the last wall bends to 15%: grin because it is the last effort before arrival at the pass. Reached and exceeded the coveted sign, it opens the Val di Gavia: on the left there is the refuge Bonetta. We passed a height of nearly 1,300 meters in just over 16 km with maximum gradients of 14% and averages 8%. We address the long descent towards Santa Caterina di Valfurva enjoying the spectacular view of the surrounding mountains. Easy the last few miles to Bormio, where the race ends. The total distance of this tour is 45,764 km.
