Montasio
This RLV covers the last 65 km of the tenth stage of the Giro d'Italia 2013, climbing the Passo Cason di Lanza and then the magnificent Plateau of Montasio in the mountains of eastern Friuli Venezia Giulia region. We start from Paularo, from where we ascend the first of the two GPMs of the ride.
The Passo Cason di Lanza is a climb of about 14 km with a maximum slope of 17%.
The narrow road ascends perfect asphalt (thanks Giro 2013!) surrounded by beautiful landscapes. Historians say that Attila advanced on Italy through this pass.
From the top of the pass we descend through the long and beautiful road to Pontebba. From there some flatter riding takes us to Chiusaforte, where we start our to climb to the Montasio plateau.
We leave the main road into a valley, crossing the river at the village of Raccolana (382m) passing through the small villages of Pezzeit (470m), Saletto (506m) and Tamaroz (553m), from where we begin to moderately ascend to Stretti (666m). From here the climb becomes more challenging.
We cross another bridge in Vol dell'Aghe (826m), past which increasingly steep roads lead us to to Sella Nevea (1190m), where we turn off on to the final road which takes us to Montasio.
The final climb up to the plateau is 4 km long with an average slope close to 10% with peaks of 18%. At the top, you are greeted by a wonderful landscape of the peaks that surround the plateau.

Despite the stunning scenery, these three RLVs are linked with a fair amont of pain, which makes them even more enjoyable.
