San Gimignano is a fairytale country, in the province of Siena. Characteristic for the Vernaccia wine and for its towers, stands on a hill overlooking the Val d'Elsa. Seat of a small Etruscan village of the Hellenistic period, he began his history around the tenth century, taking its name from the Holy Bishop of Modena, St. Gimignano, who is said to have saved the village from the barbarian hordes. Wealth and developed greatly during the Middle Ages thanks to the Via Francigena that crossed it. It is a real little gem, so precious that UNESCO has declared "World Heritage". Walking through the historic center means diving into the Middle Ages, in a fascinating glimpse of how the city would be more than seven hundred years ago.
