Passo Giovo - Jaufenpass da San Leonardo in Passiria
The Jaufenpass, connects the Val Passiria with Sterzing and the Isarco valley. We start from St.Martin in Passeiertal, we travel stretches of apparently flat ground, then begins a moderate climb that leads to a St.Leonhard in Passeiertal. Now we start to climb with steep slopes coming from the town; after 1 ° hairpin we enter the forest with a winding road and well shaded.
We exit the forest and enter the Vannes valley running high in the coast while the Valtina stream flowing in the valley. At the junction for Coste the climb becomes easier for about 500 meters up to a gallery. After the village of Walten, past the Gasthof Innerwalten and walk along a wide stretch of road up to the 6th hairpin. We enter in the woods and fast growing we reach the 7th and 8th hairpin, after which there are some clearings which allow you to see the top the final stretch of the route. From here you can admire not only the Gruppo di Tessa, but also the Oetztal Alps with the famous Cima Altissima, 3,480 high, and its glacier. After the 9th and 10th hairpin bend out of the woods and cross the wide pastures of Malga del Giovo / Jaufen Alm up to the last bend. Leave on the left the Rifugio Genziana / Enzian Hutte and go along the challenging final stretch along the mountain ridge with numerous curves until you get to the pass. Then it goes down to Sterzing where the race ends.
