Valico di Valcava
Valico di Valcava is a crossing place to 1,340 m above sea level, which connects the Valle San Martino with Valle Imagna.
This is one of the most difficult climbs in the area and has been included in the Tour of Lombardy from 1986 to 2011.
Our ride starts near Lecco, after a few kilometers the road starts to climb slopes easy.
We arrive at the crossroads in San Gottardo. From here begins the climb 11.6 kilometers long with an elevation gain of 910 meters and an average gradient of 7.8%.
The most difficult is the "wall" that begins about 4 km from the pass: just after a curve to the right the road goes straight for 250-300 meters with a gradient of 17%, then it continues with slopes less extreme,
but always very challenging, for about 2.5 km. Arriving at the summit, we face a first downhill and then continue on a slight slope with beautiful views of the valley below.
Then begins the beautiful descent to Almenno and Roncola. At the bottom of the hill, we continue in plain passing through Pontida and Caprino Bergamasco.
Here we leave the road and face a slight ascent that brings us back to the junction San Gottardo and then tackle the last climb to Monte Marenzo.
