Rifugio Gardeccia
The ride starts with a warm up in the Val di Fiemme on the way to Predazzo, followed by the climb to Panaveggio. From there, you turn left onto the challenging slopes of Passo Valles.
After a short descent, another challenge: the severe slopes of the Passo San Pellegrino. You then descend into Moena and Pera di Fassa. This is a short respite before the final climb up to Refugio Gardeccia, mountain top finish of Stage 15 of the 2011 Giro d'Italia. It is a Category 1 climb, noted for some extreme gradients, similar to Tre Cime di Lavaredo It is only 6km long and ramps up very quickly with gradients in double figures, followed by a short false flat, and then gets steeper again for a soaring final kilometre around 14%. Be inspired by the amazing Dolomiti towers of Vajolet the Catinaccio group, before a final downhill recovery to the valley below.
